Ihor Korotash was born in the Ukraine in 1957. From 1969 until 1973, he studied art at the Ivano-Frankivsk Art School. At the age of thirteen, he participated in his first art exhibition and was awarded a first placeprize for his graphic images and sculptures. In 1973, he moved to the Carpathian Mountains to study art at the Kosiv Art College. He studied at Kosiv until 1978 when he began his two year service in the Soviet Army. Despite difficulties, he continued to paint and present his art throughout is two years in the service. Upon his return to civilian life, Ihor was employed as an industrial designer.
