According to the accompanying letter of provenance, the guitar was signed in Nashville in January, 1999, when a fan saw Johnny Cash entering a restaurant he was leaving, went and bought this guitar from a music store down the black, and returned to ask Cash to sign. The lot also includes a second letter of provenance from a collector who acquired the guitar in 2004, and a Gator soft guitar case.
