Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 19th century. A cast leaded brass statue of Phra Phrom, also known as the Trimurti, and outside of Thailand as the Four-Faced God or the Four-Faced Buddha. The figure sits in half lotus position upon an elaborately decorated pedestal, and has four faces, each oriented toward one of the cardinal directions, as well as four arms, with various attributes held in the hands. The four faces each represent a different aspect of the deity, and worshippers believe that each side offers a different blessing. Worshippers will traditionally place offerings of jasmine flowers, candles, incense, and/or fresh coconut milk mixed with water before the visages of each head of Phra Phrom. Traditionally, dancers accompanied by Thai classical music perform for monumental outdoor altars dedicated to Phra Phrom, and will include the name of a worshipper in the songs they sing for a modest fee. Intact and in very nice condition save a few minor casting flaws. Leaded brass has developed a rich patina.
