Willem Kalf (1619-1693) was a Dutch painter who was best known for luscious still life painitngs, however his early career was spent in Paris in the late 1630's painting mainly small, rustic interior scenes. This oil on panel, c. 1640, depict a farmer's wife working with vegetables and copper pots, while her husband, bent at the waist in the adjacent room, tends to a large pig. 20 x 18 inches
