This lot consists of a gouache illustration on paper, done in the vivid Pop Art style of Peter Max (German, 1937 - ). Hand-painted inscription at top right reads, "MAX". Image depicts a psychedelic re-visioning of a classic bust portrait. Overall unframed dimensions approximately 11.5" x 8.25".

Reverse side of piece features a stamp which reads, "Art Gallery New York. 530 West 25th Street. New York, Ny 10001".

Peter Max (German, 1937 - ) is best known as a major contributor to pop art and psychedelia. He was born in Berlin. As a young person, Max spent time in China, Israel, and Paris before his family ultimately settled in New York City. In the late 1950s, Max received formal art training at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan. Peter Max truly came into his own as an artist during the 1970s, when his poster art and product design gained international recognition. Max has been the official artist for many big-name events and venues, including (but not limited to) the Super Bowl, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Grammy Awards, and the World Series.
