Description
This lot consists of an unframed print on paper, done in the modern style of Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954). "Frida Kahlo" There's a handwritten inscription in graphite at lower right corner. This beautifully detailed image portrays the artist herself, her dark hair exquisitely accentuated with red ribbon that twists and winds its way down her plaited hair, around her neck several times, and across the neck of a small, black-eyed monkey who peers from behind her right shoulder. In the background, tropical leaves sway and beckon. A handsome addition to any modern art collectors' gallery. Overall dimensions approximately 11.75" x 8.25".
Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954) is well known for her self-portraits, which incorporate color and surrealism in a way that is all her own. Her artwork is recognizable for its splendorous color and naive stylization, but holds a depth and a pain that many viewers can truly connect with. Though largely confined in life by her physical ailments, Frida Kahlo was prolific, politically active, and a deeply passionate individual.
