Description
A carved wooden mask with heavy kaolin clay covered surface. This is a mask like object that has been sealed in the back, with small beads embedded into the textile and an unknown magic substance sealed inside. A rare find for collector's of Eastern Nigeria Arts. Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2019.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe. The mask itself measures 9 x 6 inches.
