[AFRICAN AMERICANA] -- [MILITARIA]. Photograph of African American soldiers.
Silver gelatin photograph of group of uniformed men posed outside on building steps, n.p., n.d. Approx. 9.5 x 7.5 in (sight) framed to 14.5 x 13.5 in. (glass broken on frame, not removed from frame for inspection). Modern printed note accompanying photograph reads: "Drill team? They carry obsolete .45/70 cal. Springfield 'trap-door' rifles but their cartridge belts are Model 1910 Mills belts made for .30 cal Model '03 Springfield! Khaki uniforms are field dress from the early 1900s. Officer middle front wears an 'SV' device on his hat. Color bearer is probably old Civil War (G.A.R) veteran. These men may belong to the Sons of Veterans. / Reverse marked 'Rachel & Alexander Hollis, Mother & Father' (c. 1910 photo from the Hollis estate, Wilmington, Del.)."
