A Pair of Victorian Mahogany Sewing Boxes in the Form of a Chest of Drawers
19th century
Sold together with a third smaller mahogany chest-form sewing box. (3).
H: 6 1/2, W: 12 1/4, D: 7 3/4 in. (larger)
PROVENANCE:
The Estate of a Prominent Philadelphia Lady.
Condition
Both larger sewing boxes with some scratches and dings, primarily to tops. Edges and corners worn down with some rubbing and dings; lowest panels on both very tight fitting, difficult to pull out. One box: with split to bottom of one drawer, bottom with restoration, appears bottom panel glued back into frame, one bottom corner loose fitting. The second box: with two damages to bottom of box, one area of loss to bottom and one puncture. The smallest box: two drawer pulls reattached, drawers tight fitting; top two panels missing their pulls, neither opened or inspected.
