Elizabeth Murray (1940 - 2007) American. Mixed Media on Paper. Measure 13 3/4"in H x 10 1/4"in W and 19"in H x 17"in W with frame. Known for her abstract paintings, many of them on shaped canvases, Elizabeth Murray has also held numerous distinguished teaching positions.She was born in Chicago and attended The Art Institute of Chicago where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1962. She then attended Mills College, Oakland, California and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1964.Her teaching positions include instructor at Rosary Hill College in Buffalo, New York; Visiting Artist at Wayne State University, Detroit; Visiting Instructor at The Art Institute of Chicago; Instructor, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York; Visiting Instructor, California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA; Lecturer, Princeton University, New Jersey; Instructor, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut; and Instructor at the School of Visual Arts, New York.She received the Walter M. Campana Award at The Art Institute of Chicago and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture Medal for Painting.
