BIOGRAPHY:
Gaetano Capone was born in 1845, in Maiori. He studied in Naples at the BA. The artist was active in Naples, Rome and Maiori. Additionally, he was co-founder of the school of Amalfi. The artist passed away in 1920. Gaetano Capone practiced in his artistic passion in Italy, and after studying with Palizzi and Moretti in Naples, he sailed through the Mediterranean and northward across the Atlantic in 1883. The very next year, he exhibited his first American painting in the National Academy of Design and never looked back. Primarily a landscape artist, he also excelled at narrative portraiture and painted some coastal seascapes as well.
