Description
A substantial and impressive bird Cemi with 2 heads. The primary bird head has a unique beak lined with teeth. Behind the head an anthropic caricature is carved with toothy grin and arms that surround the grinning face. The expansive wings are symbolically engraved and brace the body while long bending legs fill the figures form. The combined bird/human symbolism denotes shamanic intent. Shaman were called bird-men as birds were considered their animal ally, helping them traverse the cosmos during hallucinogenic transcendency. Made of a heavy, fine grained hard stone. From the Collection of Larry Roberts, author of "Taino Sculptures, Art of the Gods" and "Taino Hallucinogenic Implements, Inhaling the Cosmic Dust." Size: 8.5'' x 9'' x 4.5'' (22 x 23 x 11 cm).
