Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
Native American, Alaska, Inuit / Inupiak / Inupiaq, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved soapstone swan. It sits on a flat base and the teardrop-shaped body tapers back to diminutive pointed tail. The wings are folded to the sides of the body, and the long neck rises upward to a pointed beak and two incised eyes. The soapstone presents with lovely light and dark green hues as well as black and white striations running through it. Although highly stylized, it captures the graceful form of the bird resting. The Inuit hunted swans for food and feathers, and the birds played a role in religious ceremonies for healing. Size: 5.25" L x 1.75" W x 4.5" H (13.3 cm x 4.4 cm x 11.4 cm)
