Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
Pre-Columbian, north-central Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1523 CE. A slender copper tupu covered in fine layers of gilding. The needle-form body has sturdy walls that taper to a lower point, a pair of perforations along the upper shoulder, and a hemispherical head. The tupu is an ancient Andean version of a brooch or shawl pin. These are still used today to fasten lliqlla, a shawl pinned at the front; Pre-Columbian people presumably wore rather similar vestments. Size: 10.3" L x 1.3" W (26.2 cm x 3.3 cm)
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
