Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, ca. 1 to 800 CE. Finely carved from stone of deep blue-green hues with white inclusions, a celt-shaped bead, drilled laterally through its narrow end for suspension. Celts, also known as hand axes, had meaning beyond weaponry, especially when made of stone. What's more, the greenstone used to make this bead is inherently beautiful. Size: .375" in diameter x 1" H (1 cm x 2.5 cm); 1.375" H (3.5 cm) including gold bale
Provenance: private Probst Collection, Monterey, California, USA; acquired in mid 1970's - mid 1990's

Condition
The stone bead is ancient, while the gold bale is modern. Some indentations to the gold bale. Tiny, nearly invisible nick to periphery of base of the bead. Perforated and ready to set on a chain. Cord in photo is not included.
