A VICTORIAN PLASTER MOULD FOR BACCHIC RELIEFS, AFTER FRANÇOIS DUQUESNOYTHE ORIGINALS CIRCA 1650-70, THE MOULD SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURYIncluding six moulds each with cavorting putti in relief, with inventory numbers in marker to reverse52cm by 47cm overallProvenance: By repute from the collection of the V&A, London.Catalogue Note: This mould shows six reliefs attributed to Netherlandish sculptor Du Quesnoy, executed in ivory in the mid-17thcentury, and now in the collection of the V&A (inv. nos 1059 to 1060-1853 and 1062 to 1064-1853). The mould was likely made by Brucciani or another caster associated with the museum, for the purpose of creating detailed reproductions of the ivories in plaster, possibly as souvenirs for visitors.
