Original gilt and silver pictorial brown cloth, elaborately decorated with cameo images of a musk-ox and a walrus, with icicle-encrusted titles.
*An account based on the authors experiences during an expedition north of Hudson Bay in 1979-79 and in Alaska in 1883.
Methods of hunting polar bears, seals, reindeer, musk-oxen, birds, fish dogs and dog-sledding.
*Schwatka is known for finding the remains of the Franklin Expedition in 1879.
2) THREE YEARS HUNTING AND TRAPPING IN AMERICA AND THE GREAT NORTH-WEST, 1888.
1st British edition viii + 182pp+3pp (firearms adv.).
Pictorial paper boards, showing an agitated grizzly bear standing on its hind legs and roaring at a frightened hunter (possibly the author) in a wintery frosted mountain region.
Publisher: MACLURE & Co., London.
*The author was an English sportsman and big game hunter, tells of his hunting and canoeing, and overland adventures in British Columbia in 1886-88. His travels extended along the Pacific Coast up the Skeena River to Babine Lake, and south through central British Columbia.
Condition: both books are in very good condition, clean throughout, binding tight, bright and complete with all maps.
Provenance: Michigan estate-single owner.
