This Antique Demorest’s Illustrated Monthly Mirror of Fashion Nov. 1864 is in good condition. William Jennings Demorest (1822–1895), from New York City, was an American magazine publisher, national prohibition leader, and, in collaboration with his second wife, Ellen Demorest, née Curtis, attained international success from his wife's development of paper patterns for sewing fashion apparel of the day. Together, they built a fashion manufacturing and merchandising empire from it. He and his wife launched five magazines and started a cosmetics company. He individually patented a sewing machine and a velocipede. This is a clean pictorial soft cover magazine; pages have yellowed, and there appears to be only one missing. Numerous illustrations, in B/W. The magazine includes the most interesting stories of the day. Music, poetry, Ladies Club, fashions & Household. 11" - 13" tall; 22 pages. The ads are really interesting such as Amboline for the hair- guaranteed to prevent hair loss and to keep your hair from turning gray.
