Antique Americana Federal Era handwritten letter, bearing the signature of Alexander Hamilton (c. 1755-1804), first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States (1789-1795) and an important and influential member of the Founders. Dated April 4, 1795, during the presidency of George Washington, and written to Richard Peters (1744-1828), United States District Court Judge and member of Congress (1782-1783). Includes handwritten envelope with ALBANY APRIL 9 postmark. Presented in a decorative matte, and accompanied by an antique 19th Century engraving portrait of Hamilton, after an original by John Trumbull (1756-1843), with printer's stamp and copyright to lower right of image; and framed with an inscribed plaque that reproduces the content of the letter, and a second plaque containing details of Hamilton's biography, including his fatal 1804 duel with Aaron Burr. Decorative wooden frame. Good antique condition, minor wear to frame. Measures approximately 7 7/8 in. x 4 5/8 in. (sight, letter), 19 3/4 in. x 22 3/4 in.
