Joy Hansel (American, 20th C) framed portrait oil on canvas depicting Elizabeth Adams Caldwell, signed and dated to lower left "J Hansel 1937" as well as personalized and signed verso "To Arvid Samuelson From J Hansel 1937". Wood frame measures 34-1/2" in height with width of 28-1/4" and depth of 2" while stretcher measures 30-1/4" in height with width of 24". In overall good condition with craquelure consistent with age and use. All measurements are approximate. Arvid Samuelson (Nebraska/New Jersey, 1890 - 1964)was a noted 20th Century American author and music arranger best known for his still popular choral arrangements of "Bless This House" and "Jingle Bells". Elizabeth Adams Caldwell (Staunton, VA., January 17, 1900 - July 21, 1972) owned several significant properties in Staunton, Virginia, most noteably Lowland Farm (now Boxley farm owned by Statler Brothers member Harold Reid).
