Group of Four African Carved Wood Items, 20th c., Chiwara, Mali, consisting of a harvest ceremonial headdress, of antelope form, with a basket hat and human hair and cowrie shell decoration; a headdress, with two circular antelopes on a basket weave hat; an antelope headdress, with cloth, cowrie shell and hair decoration; and a ritual headdress, with an antelope with tasseled horns, on a basketweave hat with human hair and cowrie shell decoration, Largest- H.- 36 in., W.- 9 1/2 in., D.- 9 in. (4 Pcs.) Provenance: from the Estate of John C. McNeese, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. 20th c. Would benefit from cleaning. Antelope carving on shallow woven cap is loose and does not stand up by itself.
