Item Details
Description
Claude Clark (1915-2001) was a African American Artist from Oakland, Ca. Way too much to say about this artist, but I’ll hit a few high notes about him. Clark studied at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (1935-1939). Worked with the WPA from 1939 to 1942. Received his Maters in 1958 from Cal Berkeley. Was a Associate Professor of Art at Talladega College from 1948 to 1955. He helped curate the first national African American exhibition at the Oakland Museum in 1967. His work is in many of the prestigious museums across the country i.e. National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Oakland Museum, Oakland, Ca, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C., to name a few. He has had many solo and group shows, the Sorbonne in Paris, France in 1953 to name one. Received the Carnegie Fellowship Award in 1950. Amazing use of thick textural paint and brush strokes in this landscape oil painting, 12" x 16".
