**First Time At Auction**
Near East/Western Asia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A very fine example of Islamic revival metalware bowl, commonly referred to as "Cairoware," produced in Egypt and Syria. This particular piece is done in 14th century style, and is an echo of the bowls attributed to Fars, examples of which can be seen in many museum collections. The bowl is made from a heavy gauge turned brass, with extensive inlays of silver and copper. The decoration consists of calligraphic inscriptions alternating with bands of scrollwork. Size: 5.5" W x 2.8" H (14 cm x 7.1 cm); quality of silver: 80%

Condition
Small dents and dings commensurate with age but exterior is overall in very nice condition with a great deal of remaining pigment. The interior has thick, dark carbonized deposits.
