**First Time At Auction**
Western/Central Europe, Medieval Period, ca. 11th to 13th century CE. A mold-cast lead pilgrim's ampulla of a near-miniature size with a circular body, a pair of semicircular handles, and a compressed neck. One side of the body features a bas relief rosette with broad petals, and the other side displays a bas relief radiating sun with triangular rays. Such ampullae would have been brought back from a visit to a pilgrimage, similar to a souvenir, and would have held holy water from a shrine. Size: 1.125" W x 1.25" H (2.9 cm x 3.2 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000

Condition
Repair to area of neck and one handle, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small losses to one side of neck as shown. Light encrustations across body and handles. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
