Gorgeous Abraham Lincoln Bronze Bust Portrait Plaque in High Relief, Ex Forbes
An oval, bronze plaque measuring 9" x 11.25", weighing 4.65lbs, no place, no date. A large bust portrait of President Abraham Lincoln, seen from the chest up. Highly detailed face, hair, beard, suit and tie. With a textured embellishing to the background. No makers mark on verso. With a steel hanger on verso at the top, to be hung and displayed. Light wear and rubbing to the portrait edges and on verso. With minor natural patina and verdigris.
Likely produced by Clyde de Vernet Hunt (1861-1941). Hunt was born in Glasgow while his parents were traveling in Europe. He received early art instruction from his famous uncles, painter William Morris Hunt and architect Richard Morris Hunt. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Hunt went to Paris to study painting with Jean‐Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant and sculpture with Jules Coutan. He returned to America to serve in the Spanish American War, achieving the rank of Major before returning to civilian life.
