JFK Assassination Day Unused Texas Welcome Dinner Ticket--Rare

Measuring 4" x 2.5", Austin, Texas, November 22, 1963. An unused ticket from “The State Democratic Executive Committee Texas Welcome Dinner In Honor of President John F. Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson” scheduled to take place in Austin, Texas on the evening of November 22, 1963. The gold-colored printed stock card, serial number D 3845, is in pristine condition.

35th President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) was assassinated in Dallas, Texas around lunchtime on November 22, 1963. 200 miles to the southwest in Austin, preparations were already well underway for a banquet to be hosted by the Texas Democratic State Committee, where President Kennedy was scheduled to deliver remarks seven hours later in the state capital’s Municipal Auditorium. When news arrived that Kennedy was dead and that Texas Governor John Connally was also injured in the Dallas motorcade, the auditorium was already arranged with tables, chairs, and $100/plate settings.

The 2,500+ word speech that President Kennedy was scheduled to give would have reiterated his 1960 campaign promises, rallied support for the Democratic Party, and greased fund-raising wheels. This ticket holder might have heard Kennedy say: “For this country is moving and it must not stop. It cannot stop. For this is a time for courage and a time for challenge. Neither conformity nor complacency will do. Neither the fanatics nor the faint-hearted are needed. And our duty as a party is not to our party alone, but to the Nation, and, indeed, to all mankind. Our duty is not merely the preservation of political power but the preservation of peace and freedom.”

An eerie relic of Kennedyiana from a banquet the assassinated president never got to attend.
