This lot consists of an unfarmed ink illustration on paper, done in the cartooning style of Jerry Robinson (American, 1922-2011). Image depicts the legendary DC comics supervillain, the Joker, who Robinson co-created with Bill Finger and Bob Kane. A handwritten inscription at lower right reads, “Jerry Robinson”. This unframed piece measures approximately 11.75" x 8.25".
Jerry Robinson (American, 1922-2011) was a comic book artist best known for his work on the Batman comic series. Robinson was discovered by Bob Kane in 1939, who hired Robinson to work as a letterer on the staff of the fledgling Batman comic. Robinson was president of the National Cartoonists Society from 1967 to 1969 and served a two-year term as president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists starting in 1973.
