Description
This lot consists of an ink illustration on paper, rendered in the modern style of Fauvist painter Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954). Image depicts a female figure with long, flowing tresses. This stunningly elegant piece is a perfect example of the understated style for which Matisse was so well known. Unframed dimensions approximately 11.25" x 8.75".
Reverse side of piece features a handwritten graphite inscription, which reads, "H. Matisse".
Henri Matisse (French, 1869 - 1954) was an artist known for both his fluid use of colour and his original draughtsmanship. He was an illustrator, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century.

Condition
Overall good conditioning. Light toning has occurred over time. The image itself remains bold and clear. No tears, stains, creases, etc. Please see photos for further reference.
