This lot consists of a pastel and watercolor illustration on paper, done in the modern style of artist Jean Cocteau (French, 1889-1963). "Jean Cocteau" is hand written at top of composition and in graphite at lower right. Image depicts the sweetly smiling face of a figure in a patterned costume and ruffled collar. Executed in the abstract expressionist style for which Cocteau is known. This unframed piece measures approximately 11.75" x 8.25".

Born to a wealthy family in a small village, Maisons-Lafitte, near Paris, France, Jean Cocteau had a multi-faceted career as a stage designer, graphic artist, ceramist, sculptor, poet and film maker.
