Description
A large West African Ivory Coast Senufo carved hornbill bird sculpture carved from a solid piece of wodo having elongated hornbill beak that rests atop a protrudting belly with carved feather patterns. The bird is posed in a protective stance with two small carved birds resting on both spread wings, representing the bird protecting its children. It features carved horn-like protrusions on the head, stands on two carved legs with defined claws atop a round base. The hornbill is a symbol of fertility and prosperity among the Lo and Poro societies within Western Africa.
