Description
A Carved wooden mask with elaborate rattan headdress and attached woven grass finial to the chin. Among the Salampasu peoples, young men must pass through initiation rites to become men and eventually warriors. The mukinka mask such as this example is considered the most senior of all masks. Owned by accomplished warriors, mukinka masks are worn during special ceremonies such as funerals, and ceremonial dances. This mask measures 11 x 10 inches ( 18 inches when including the hanging adornment on the chin) and was part of the permanent display at the Metamora Museum of Oddities, Metamora Indiana. A metal display stand can be included for an additional $40.00
