Louis XVI marquise, attributed to Jean Avisse (French, 1723 - after 1796, maître 1745), late 18th century, the bergère armchair with carved and paint decorated beechwood frame around the needlepoint upholstery secured with brass nailheads and passementerie trim, all raised on fluted tapered legs accented with rosette block details, frame stamped to underside "IAVISSI". 36” H x 33” W x 26” D. Scattered minor wear and losses. Provenance: From the estate of American film producer Martin Bregman (Scarface, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon). Removed from his Park Avenue apartment decorated by Sister Parish and Albert Hadley.
