A rare original copy of "Davy Crockett's Almanack of Wild Sports in the West.", Nashville, TN., Published by "the Heirs of Col. Crockett." This original Imprint measures about 4.5" x 7.5" (8vo), incomplete as it contains 44 of 48 pages. It's full title reads, "Davy Crockett's Almanack of Wild Sports in the West. Life in the Backwoods & Sketches of Texas." Eleven full-page Woodcut Plate illustrations include one contemporarily Hand-colored titled, "A Tongariferous Fight With an Alligator". String stitched as issued, soiled, extremities a bit frayed, small "New York State Library" (deaccessioned) stamp on the front cover top margin edge. Lacking the last four pages ending on page 44 which sadly include the remainder of "Battle of San Antonio de Bexar, Heroism and Death of Col. Crockett", leaving Crockett as he was wounded with a "musket ball in his thigh", with mention of Col. Bowie and Mr. Benton, along with General Santa Ana and more. Lacking only the rear cover with woodcut illustration depicting "Fall of the Alamo-Death of Crockett". The front cover is detached, some scattered edge tears, chips and irregularities from use, but a neat and historic highly popular rarity in any form. See: (Drake 13411; Streeter sale 343; Streeter Texas 1194), Nashville, Tennessee, by the heirs of Col. Crockett, (1836).
Davy Crockett's Almanack of Wild Sports in the West, vol. 1, no. 3, with 12 full-page woodcut illustrations, front cover with woodcut portrait of Crockett, lacking the rear with woodcut illustration depicting "Fall of the Alamo-Death of Crockett," rear wrapper

The first posthumous Crockett 'Almanach', featuring a report on the frontiersman's death at the Alamo. After Crockett was defeated for reelection as a congressman from Tennessee (having told his constituents 'if they did not re-elect me, they might go to hell, and I'd go to Texas'), 'he found the bears had got so thinned out, that he should soon want for employment. The news of the invasion of Texas by the Mexican having arrived at this time, and many of his old friends and neighbors having gone there to settle, he determined to go and lend them a hand to whip the Mexicans. The sketches concerning Texas are taken from the letters he wrote home'. (Explanatory Preface).
