Provenance: Property from the Collection of Dr. Leonard D. Hamilton. Leonard D. Hamilton studied at Balliol College, Oxford, and Trinity College, Cambridge, before moving to the US in 1949. He was a brilliant researcher who played an important role in the discovery of the structure of DNA. A keen art collector, Dr. Hamilton owned works by the likes of Whistler, Matisse, Picasso and Candido Portinari.

Notes/Literature: Elsa de Brun, painting under the pseudonym Nuala, remained in obscurity until late in life. Her work came to prominence in the 1980s, when her 40-year body of work was first exhibited at Betty Parsons' gallery, and entered into the collections of the Hirshhorn Museum, the Bymusbu Museum, and the University of Texas. Her stained-glass window stands at the entrance of Carnegie Hall.
