Description
**First Time At Auction**
Central Asia, India, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A cast-brass depiction of Vishnu, one of the principal deities in Hinduism, known as the preserver in the Hindu trinity (Trimurti) which also includes Brahma and Shiva. He sits in a half lotus position with one bent leg resting atop the head of a crouching individual. His hands each hold an instrument attributed to Vishnu, and a conical headdress rests atop his carefully-modeled head. The smaller figure seated in the lap of Vishnu is his wife, the goddess Lakshmi, who has an upright posture and holds one of Vishnu's shoulders with her right hand. Size: 3.75" W x 5.75" H (9.5 cm x 14.6 cm).
Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.

Condition
Loss to Lakshmi's left hand. Minor nicks and abrasions to base, both figures, and heads, with slight bending to arms and areas of base, and light fading to some finer details. Light earthen deposits within recessed areas, and nice patina throughout. Old inventory labels beneath base.
