In their description of this aquatint, The New York Print Club states John Walk drew inspiration to create this print from his love of gardening, and his son's liking of hollyhocks. The print was handcolored to give it the appearance of a monotype.
John Walker is a British-born artist and teacher, best known for his abstract works. Born in Birmingham, England, Walker studied at the Moseley School of Art, Birmingham School of Art and Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He has taught art at the Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne, Royal College in London, Yale University in Connecticut and at Boston University. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Harkness Fellowship in 1969, Guggenheim Fellowship in 1981 and artist residencies at Oxford University in the UK and Monash University in Melbourne.
