Description
First quarter 20th century, 286 x 110 cm, Western Central Persia
This very beautiful, red-ground kilim woven by the Shushtar group features a trefoil design along the sides of the field and gables at both ends. The field design is unusual: five diamonds of different sizes, two yellow bowls and two pentagonal brown motifs depicting a face are lined up on the central axis. Known as "khorshid khanoom" (smiling sun lady), the motif is based on Persian mythology. – Very good condition, original finishes all around.
