Heber C. Kimball was a 19th-century leader in the early Mormon church and the first President of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter-Day Saints. His journal was published in 1882 as part of a series of book designed to teach young Mormons about their faith and the history of the religion – ‘The Faith Promoting Series’.
In 1837, Joseph Smith called Kimball to lead a group of Mormon missionaries in England. While on this journey, Kimball kept detailed notes in his journal which told of baptisms, Mormon rites and practices, encountering evil spirits, correspondence with Smith, adventures in Nauvoo when returning home, as well as general observations of 19th-century England.
