Theodore Parker was a 19th-century American abolitionist who played an important role ultimate destruction of American slavery. In 1856, Parker gave a speech that hoped to unify many of the divisions over slavery that were prevalent in the United States, as well as discussing the influence and effectiveness of the Fugitive Slave Act.
Parker’s speeches on slavery were polarizing and important and Publisher Benjamin Greene printed two such speeches shortly after Parker’s 1856 speech to the American Anti-Slavery Society in New York.
