James Dean Lock of Hair From the Collection of Harold Shigley in Exhibit Quality Framed Display W/Letter of Authenticity & More - This exhibit quality framed display contains a lock of hair cut from James Dean during the filming of "Giant" on September 28, 1955, just two days before Dean's tragic death. The lock comes with extensive documentation, including a letter of authenticity from Ryan Mack of Griffin Memorabilia, which states in part, "I removed pieces of James Dean's hair from a lock originally obtained at the request of Sydney Guilaroff by his good friend Gordon Bau during the filming of 'Giant' on September 28, 1955". The lot also includes a copy of an original Certificate of Authenticity & Provenance from American collector Harold Shigley, whose collection contained iconic items such as an uncirculated $10,000 bill, burial ring of Leonardo da Vinci, nails from Jesse James' coffin, and the doorknocker from the home of Christopher Columbus, among others. The lock was obtained by Sydney Guilaroff (who was the head hair stylish at MGM from 1934-1984) from Gordon Bau who was the make-up supervisor on "Giant". Sydney Guilaroff and Harold Shigley were good friends, and Guilaroff gave the lock to Shigley on September 29, 1955, as is documented in the accompanying copies of correspondence from the stylist. The lock of hair has been professionally matted and framed in a wood and gilt frame along with a photo of the iconic actor. Measurements: 16.75" x 21".
