Description
Amedio Salamoni (American, 20th Century) Two Works. Including a Face Jug and Janiform Pottery Bust. Glazed pottery, each signed. Sizes: 1) 9'' x 7'' x 7'' (23 x 18 x 18 cm); 2) 9'' x 6'' x 6'' (23 x 15 x 15 cm). Property from the Collection of Norman Girardot and Diane LaBelle. Amedeo Salamoni is a master potter and studio art educator in Pennsylvania. After his formal training in ceramics, Salamoni apprenticed himself to southern folk potters in north Georgia, where he learned the art of kiln wood fired, traditional folk art face jugs. He is now one of the few northern potters creating authentic traditional folk art face jugs, while bringing to them his own special signature style. With the double face head in this lot, the artist took advantage of a happy accident in the firing process, which added to an abstract, expressive result.
