The base with underglaze blue double concentric circles. This vase depicts a scene from Chu Renhuo's novel 'Romance of Sui and Tang' showing Emperor Yang of Sui (r.606-618) watching his concubines cavort perform for him on horseback. The scene serves as a cautionary tale with the implication that decadence can lead to negligence in running an Empire.
