A BURMESE GOLD REPOUSSE VOTIVE PLAQUE OF BUDDHA, AVA KINGDOM
Ava Kingdom, Upper Burma, 15th-16th century. The gold plaque with fine repousse depicting Buddha seated in dhyanasana with the hands forming the dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation, wearing a samghati around his left shoulder, the face with a meditative expression, long earlobes, and urna, the hair in tight curls surmounted by an ushnisha, a halo behind the head.
Provenance: Ex-Collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above.
Condition: Very good condition with expected minor traces of age and wear as well as soil encrustations.
