Description
NEW JERSEY DECORATED STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, approximately two-gallon capacity, ovoid form with two incised neck rings, rounded mouth with lower bead, and strap handle with prominent medial ridge and thumbprint lower terminal, brown-slip glazed interior. Bold brushed cobalt decoration featuring a spitting tulip centering leaves with cloud-like scallops below, additional cobalt at handle terminals. Attributed to Abial Price, Middletown Point, NJ. Second quarter 19th century. 14 1/2" H.
Undamaged. Small firing spall below decoration, some other typical firing flaws, as made, and light stains.
