Description
HENKEL / SPIGLE ATTRIBUTED, BOTETOURT CO., VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED EARTHENWARE / REDWARE DIMINUTIVE JAR, lead- and manganese-glazed, approximately one-quart capacity, cylindrical form with sharp shoulder, thin flat-top rim, and pronounced foot. Featuring a band of eight finely incised rings above and below a sine-wave band beneath shoulder. Attributed to Jesse Henkel or Philip Spigle, Amsterdam, Botetourt Co., VA. 1830-1850. 6 1/2" H, 4 3/8" D rim.
Very good as-found condition, two chips to edge of rim and two sizable spalls under base, some expected glaze wear to high points.
