[Art] Benton, Thomas HartAutograph Note and Photograph, signedAutograph note, signed by Benton, and dated April 4, 1943: "To Hildegard the 'Patient Model' Patient did you say. --And besides why the hell did you think I took so long? Thomas H. Benton". The note is written on the top portion of a once larger leaf, now trimmed down to approximately 2 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. Together with a gelatin silver print of American singer Hildegarde Loretta Sell (1906-2005) and American painter Thomas Hart Benton, looking at a painting of Benton's; trimmed; approximately 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (190 x 241 mm).Sell sat for Benton in April of 1943 and a drawing from that sitting is now in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery. She also owned many of his works.
