This painting was originally published on the First Day Cover for the Republic of the Marshall Islands 55c Inauguration stamp issued May 29, 1995.

Kennedy's road to the presidency had not been easy. He had grappled with a shrewd politician named Richard Nixon and only barely survived the fight, winning the election by a razor-thin margin of just over 100,000 votes. But on January 20, 1961, he proudly took the the Constitution. "I do solemnly swear that I will truthfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
