Description
A Victorian sterling silver mug, London 1847 by William Brown The splayed octagonal base leading to circular upper section, all raised on four pierced C scroll and shell feet with rocaille flower head junction leading to a C scroll rim. The fluted D section handle with acanthus capped thumbpiece. The panelled arches with cast and applied busts of Shakespeare, each with engraved curtains behind, each above engraved musical trophies. The panels with engraved gothic tracery and quatrefoils, the front with a presentation inscription reading ‘To Alexander Buchanan from his Godfather A.W.A, 12th June 1848’. Gilt interior. Fully marked to right of handle. Height – 11.7 cm / 4.45 inches Weight – 214 grams / 6.88 ozt
