Description
A set of seven Queen Anne Britannia standard silver dessert spoons, London 1706/07 by Thomas Sadler (reg. 25th Aug 1701) Dog nose pattern, the oval bowls with rat tail heel. The terminals engraved with a coat of arms in a lozenge. Two for 1706, three for 1707, two dare letters obliterated. Two spoons shortened. Length – 16.7 cm / 6.55 inches Weight – 156 grams / 5.02 ozt Collection of Anthony Aston Smith (1929-2010) bought as a set of 12 (five 1706/ six 1707, one c.1705 by John Broake) offered Christies 9th Nov 1966, sold as an aftersale 8th December 1966 (£60) Sadler apprenticed to Lawrence Cole, a noted spoon maker on the 10 March 1692
