Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $600**

Eastern Europe, Russia, imported to Alaska, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A forged-iron axe head of a substantial weight with a stocky body, a triangular hafting hole with points along the lower lip for gripping the pole, a thick neck with a small hook protruding from the bottom, and a wide blade with pointed corners and a sharpened edge. Irons tools and weapons like this example were not able to be transported over land due to their weight, so Russian traders would transport them via waterways between eastern Russia and Western Alaska. Size: 6.625" L x 6.25" H (16.8 cm x 15.9 cm).

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection; ex-private MacLeod collection, Alaska
